Roads closed, classes suspended in Cordillera due to 'Odette'

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Road systems in some Cordillera provinces were shut down because of continuous rains brought by Tropical Storm Odette.
The Abra-Kalinga road, particularly along the Gacab-Malibcong section in Abra has been closed to traffic.
The following roads have been reported impassable due to landslides:
- Conner-Kabugao road particularly along the Badduat and Luttuacan section
- Calanasa, Apayao-Ilocos Norte road at the Sadel section
- Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet boundary road particularly at Tulludan, Tinoc, Ifugao
- Junction Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis road, particularly at the Balabag section in Barlig
The local government also suspended classes from the pre-school to secondary level in Abra early Friday morning while all pre-school to high school students in Apayao province were not allowed to attend school.
Pre-schoolers were also told not to attend school in Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province as these provinces were under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 since Friday morning.
Trekkers and hikers in Mount Purgatory in Itogon, Benguet were also barred from mountain climbing or trekking activities because of the storm.
