Navotas takes MBT opener
MANILA, Philippines - Navotas hacked out a tough 93-90 decision over Caloocan in the North Division while Manila and Makati blasted their respective division rivals in the opener of the MMDA Metro Basketball Tournament at the San Andres gym in Manila recently.
The Big City bets served notice of their title bid with an 86-67 demolition of the Metro Manila Development Authority cagers in the Central Division while the Makati boys crushed their counterparts from Muntinlupa, 90-67, in the South Division.
Present during the opening were MMDA chairman Tim Orbos and San Miguel Corp. sports director Alfrancis Chua, Batang Gilas under-16 Michael Oliver and Manila Sports Council head Philip Cezar, Valenzuela Councilor Gerry Esplana, Muntinlupa Councilor Christine Abas, who also acted as city muse, and Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III of Patero.
Action resumes today at the Oreta Sports Complex in Malabon.
The 16-under tournament backed by Spalding, World Balance, Gerry’s Grill, Frabelle Foods, Cloudfone, Star Bread, Firefly, Summit, Higer Bus, Excellent Noodles, Synergy 88 Digital, Cobra Energy Drinks, Foton, Gadget In Style, and Burlington.
