One killed in Carmen highway accident

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - One man was killed in a vehicular clash involving an Isuzu minibus and a tricycle along the national highway in Barangay Dawis Sur, Carmen town yesterday morning.

Police identified the victim the driver of the tricycle as Adoly Balayo, 50, a resident of Barangay Dawis Sur. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

According to Police Officer 2 Ever Villacarlos, Carmen traffic investigator, the motorcycle was heading north while the minibus was heading south from Borbon.

Balayo tried to avoid a dead dog lying on the road and swerved to the opposite lane.

Because the road was slightly curved, he did not see that the Isuzu minibus was approaching on the same lane, causing the motorcycle to crash into the driver's side of the minibus.

Edito Aribal Jr., 41, the driver of the minibus and Balayo's wife Violeta suffered minor injuries during the incident. Violeta, 50, was inside the tricycle.

No minibus passengers were injured.  Balayo was reportedly driving without a driver license.

The family of the victim agreed to come up with a settlement with the driver of the minibus. (FREEMAN)
