Abu leader slain
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – An Abu Sayyaf leader was killed when the improvised bomb he was carrying accidentally exploded yesterday.
Mussana Jamiri, said to be a bomb expert, was escaping from pursuing troops in Barangay Mangalot in Akbar town at around 10 a.m. when the accident occurred, said Col. Cirilo Tomas Donato, commander of the 104th Army Brigade.
Jamiri’s body was severed in the explosion.
Jamiri is a first cousin of Nurhassan Jamiri, another Abu Sayyaf leader operating in Tuburan area.
Donato said government troops launched pursuit operations against Jamiri’s group after an encounter that killed three soldiers and a militiaman.
The military said Jamiri’s group perpetrated the ambush on soldiers of the 64th Infantry Battalion on Wednesday that left a soldier dead and another wounded.
