MANILA, Philippines -- The Parañaque City government has met owners of some 30 bars and clubs along Aguirre Avenue in Barangay BF Homes as it ramps up the drive against the use and trafficking of illegal drugs.
Also in line with the drive, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez convened the local peace and order council and reminded the city’s police of the national government’s campaign to solve the illegal drugs problem within six months.
The stretch of Aguirre Avenue is home to various bars and clubs that cater to residents of Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Taguig and as far away as Cavite and Laguna.
According to Olivarez, the bar operators and owners have promised to give their full cooperation to the city’s anti-illegal drugs drive. He said bar and club owners who attended the meeting promised to police their ranks and ban all forms of party drugs like ecstasy from entering their establishments.
In addition, Olivarez said bar owners also assured the city government that they would allow police officers to conduct inspections for illegal drugs in their establishments.
On July 6, suspected Taiwanese drug trafficker Chun Ming Lin was nabbed in a raid on an alleged shabu warehouse in BF Homes Phase 5 in Parañaque City. Seized in the raid were 10 kg of suspected shabu and around 200 kg of suspected ephedrine.
