DAVAO CITY — Two hundred self-confessed criminals surrendered here from June 30 to July 3 following President Rodrigo Duterte's repeated warnings that he would be harsh in implementing the law.
Data from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) showed that one admitted involvement in illegal activities last June 30, while 108 followed on July 1. On July 2, another two surrendered and 89 more confessed on July 3.
The data also showed that 26 men got arrested at buy-bust operations since June 1, while 30 got arrested for various crimes and three got killed during police operations.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Davao Region's legal counsel Atty. Ben Joseph Tesiorna previously stated that those dependent on illegal drugs and want to surrender should go to the Drug Rehabilitation Center in Bago Oshiro, Barangay Mintal in Davao City.
“Police will be checking on them from time to time but those who surrendered with criminal charges will be automatically brought to prison,” he said.
Earlier today, seven self-confessed drug pushers also surrendered to Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte. They were turned over by First District Councilor Edgar Ibuyan, Jr.
The vice mayor encouraged them to undergo rehabilitation.
