Duterte siblings claim Davao City top posts
MANILA, Philippines — The children of presumptive president Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte have been proclaimed as mayor and vice mayor of their hometown Davao City, Davao del Sur.
On Tuesday, Sara Duterte-Carpio was proclaimed as mayor while her brother Paolo "Pulong" Duterte was re-elected as vice mayor.
Sara won by a landslide with 576,230 votes while her opponents Teodoro Mantilla and Kilat Tocante only garnered 2,012 and 591 votes, respectively. She served as Davao City mayor from 2010 to 2013, becoming the first woman local executive chief of the city.
Paolo, who ran unopposed in the vice mayoralty race, registered 522,119. Both Sara and Paolo ran under Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a political party which their father Rody founded.
The presidential front-runner earlier said that he opposes the provisions of the proposed Anti-Dynasty Bill as he finds it undemocratic.
The elder Duterte said that the proposed measure hinders rights of first degree family members of public officials to run for office. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
