Jaime Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two soldiers were killed and another was wounded when suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas opened fire at a command post in Bukidnon on Tuesday.

The bodies of Privates Nicol Sermito and Norbert Romanillos were recovered only on Wednesday, said Capt. Lorenzo Siobal, spokesman for the Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade.

The wounded soldier was identified as Sgt. Elmer Cabingi.

Siobal said the victims were part of a team conducting security operations in Upper Lubuna, Barangay Casisang in Malaybalay City.

“Our soldiers were eating and caught off guard,” he said.
