DOH conducts disinfection, misting operation in Mimaropa
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Health (DOH) has embarked on disinfection and misting operations in the seaports of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan (Mimaropa) to eliminate mosquito-borne diseases.
“This will help reduce and control the incidence of vector-borne diseases in the provinces of Mimaropa and ensure the disease-free status of the provinces in the region,” DOH director for Mimaropa Eduardo Janairo said.
Janairo said disease-carrying mosquitoes could travel through sea vessels.
“We should seek every area where mosquitoes may emanate. They tend to travel from neighboring provinces. That is why we should not be complacent and should take extra effort in searching for and eliminating them,” he said.
Dengue, malaria and filariasis are among the diseases spread by mosquitoes.
Janairo said an information campaign was also conducted to make port authorities and owners of sea vessels aware of the importance of clean-up operations in vessels and terminals.
