Abu man nabbed for doctor’s kidnap

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines   â€“ A suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf bandit group tagged in the kidnap of a doctor and his family was arrested in Lantawan town in Basilan yesterday.

Moraham Ameng alias Ameng Alamsirul reportedly carries a P600,000 bounty on his head, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) regional office here.

Ameng was arrested in Barangay Bulan-bulan for the kidnap of physician Nilo Barandino and his family in 1992.

Authorities said the suspect was also involved in the kidnapping of 16 public school teachers in 1994.

The suspect was taken to the CIDG headquarters in this city while awaiting possible transfer to a jail facility in Bicutan, Taguig City.
