Fire razes Surigao City radio station
BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Fire gutted radio station dxSP 96.1 or One FM in Surigao City Tuesday night, destroying all its equipment and facilities, the office of the city fire marshal reported.
The radio station’s supervising officer, Marivic Cubelo, also the station manager of dxJM 756Khz of the Radio Corp. of the Philippines here, said the two transmitters of dxSP 96.1 were destroyed.
Cubelo estimated the fire damage at P7 million, saying the two transmitters alone cost P6 million when they were installed four years ago.
Cubelo said both stations are owned by Radio Corp. of the Philippines of businessman and former ambassador Danding Cojuangco.
In a report, the Surigao City fire marshal said the fire started past 8 p.m. Tuesday and was placed under control nearly an hour later. The radio station was located on the top floor of the Yuipco building.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
