'Santi' slams into Aurora

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon "Santi" has made landfall in Dingalan, Aurora, the state weather bureau announced Friday night.

Meno Mendoza of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon made landfall at around 11 p.m.

PAGASA said that as of 12 a.m., the typhoon's center was in the vicinity of Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph, moving west at the speed of 17 kph.

Reports said that the power supply in a large part of Aurora has been cut off as the typhoon batters the province.

Mendoza said the typhoon will exit land through Zambales. It's forecast location by Saturday evening was 170 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales.

The typhoon was forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday night.

The estimated rainfall amount within the typhoon's 500 kilometer diameter was 7.5 to 30.0 millimeters per hour or heavy to intense rainfall.

"Residents in low lying and mountainous areas along the track are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal #3 and #2 are alerted against storm surges of up to 4 meters," PAGASA said.

It added that sea travel over the seaboard of Luzon and Visayas is too risky.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau issued the orange rainfall warning over the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Bulacan.

The yellow rainfall warning, meanwhile, was raised over Metro Manila and the provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac and the rest of Bulacan.
