‘Pandang-Gitab’ now the official festival of Oriental Mindoro

Juancho Mahusay - The Philippine Star

CALAPAN CITY, Philippines  – The “Pandang-Gitab Oriental Mindoro, The Festival of Lights” will now carry the banner of Oriental Mindoro as it is now declared the official festival of the island province.

Oriental Mindoro Gov. Alfonso Umali Jr. and Vice Gov. Humerlito Dolor both announced it to the public during the recent celebration of the province’s 62nd founding anniversary.

The word “pandang-gitab” was coined from the words “pandanggo” (local dance) and “dagitab” (handmade lamp or portable light) which describes the old tradition of Mindoreños.
