The call of Pasig City congressional bet Dodot Jaworski to postpone the elections over irregularities in the voters list drew a sharp reaction yesterday from Mayor Soledad Eusebio and her husband Vicente.
In a press conference, the mayor claimed there is no truth to Jaworskis allegations that the list has been padded by 130,000 votes.
She claimed there are only 37,482 voters in Barangays San Nicolas, Bagong Katipunan, Kapitolyo, Sta. Rosa, San Jose, Sto. Tomas, De la Paz and Oranbo. "Paano magkaroon ng padded voters, eh wala pa ngang 100,000 ang botante dito," Eusebio said.
Jaworski had called for the postponement of the elections, insisting that the padded voters list was meant to ensure the winnability of the mayors husband, Vicente, who is seeking a fresh mandate to replace his wife.
The latter had been a three-term mayor of Pasig City before his wife replaced him in the last local elections.
Vicente Eusebio of the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) will be running against his godson, Rep. Henry Lanot of the Lakas-CMD.
Jaworski is allied with Lanot.
Appearing in the same press conference, the former mayor claimed there would be an outrage should Jaworski succeed in his plan to postpone the elections. "Hindi pa siya nakakapangampanya nang husto kaya gusto niyang huwag munang mag-eleksiyon," he said.
Eusebio explained that it was not unusual to have an increase in the number of voters since many of the 14-year-old residents in the last senatorial election can now vote.
"Hindi ba sila naaawa sa Comelec. Hirap na hirap sila noong registration at validation tapos pagbibintangan sila na nakipagsabwatan," he stressed.
The former mayor admitted he is supporting the candidacies of three other congressional candidates, namely: Roman Romulo, Vice Mayor Lorna Bernardo and Toti Cariño. Non Alquitran
