More bridges across Pasig

Around six to eight bridges across the Pasig River will be constructed in the next few months by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as part of the program to provide more roads for the motorists.

MMDA General Manager Robert Nacianceno announced that three or four of the bridges would already be finished by October this year.

One of the bridges would connect J.P. Rizal street near the Rockwell area in Makati City to Mandaluyong City.

This bridge is expected to provide an alternative to the Makati-Mandaluyong bridge which has been the only interconnecting route between the cities apart from EDSA.

Another bridge will connect Pioneer street in Mandaluyong city to the road in Makati City that leads to the municipality of Pateros.

The Punta, Sta. Ana area in Manila would also benefit from a bridge across the Pasig River which would shorten the route of vehicles.

A fourth bridge will also be developed at the Guadalupe area in Makati City to complement the existing bridge located along EDSA.

Nacianceno said that this is all part of the GMA Bridges program of the administration.

Although the DPWH will be the main proponent of the bridge projects, the MMDA will also play a part in the process at the foremost agency in charge of traffic in Metro Manila.

Nacianceno explained that the bridges will help ease traffic in Metro Manila by providing the motorists with alternative routes that connect two cities or municipalities through a shorter route.

The DPWH is currently mapping out the plans on how to construct the bridges but Nacianceno noted that the development of these would be very fast.

"It is faster to build these bridges now with the new technology being used by the DPWH," Nacianceno said without elaborating. – Marvin Sy
