MANILA, Philippines - A newly promoted assistant supervisor of the Manila Tollway Expressway System’s traffic section was gunned down by a still unidentified assailant in Filinvest Corporate City in Muntinlupa before dawn Friday.

Rodelio Umali, 42, a resident of Tondo, Manila, was driving his motorcycle along Commerce Avenue when he was shot at close range by two men on a motorcycle as he approached East Asia Drive at around 4:30 a.m., Muntinlupa police chief Senior Superintendent Allan Nobleza said.

Umali, who was wearing a full-face crash helmet, sustained two bullet wounds in the head. He was also shot in the body, police said.

The assailants fled the scene after the shooting, police said.

Investigators recovered five spent .45 caliber shells at the scene of the shooting. Police are still determining the possible motives for Umali’s murder.
