Plot:
Wonder Woman’s worries aren’t over, what with the aftermath of alien invasions and Themyscira’s role in the new world order. But everything is about to literally go to hell—wayward magician Felix Faust manipulates sorceress Tala so that he can become Lord of the Underworld, usurping Hades. This disrupts the balance of life and death. Meanwhile, Ares fans the flames of war through his protégée, Aresia—one of Diana’s Amazon sisters. Wonder Woman has to prevent the Amazons from being manipulated into war with the rest of the world, as well as protecting it from the rise of all the monsters of the Underworld. Finally, she has to restore balance and defeat Felix Faust at his own game.
The Thor sequel went outward to find its antagonists, making use of the Dark Elves. Wonder Woman’s wouldn’t need to get into space, thankfully, but it will include other realms. The Wonder Woman mythos is full enough of great villains that could make for an epic hero’s journey, and Diana is more than up to the task. Assuming Marvel would not balk at the number of female characters this film would have to cast (worldly and sassy best friend Etta Candy, fierce and merciless fellow Amazon Artemis, close sister and aspirant Donna Troy) our last worry is whether Queen Hippolyta would survive the film or not. Still, by the film’s end, Diana will assert herself as Themyscira’s champion of the gods and Earth’s greatest super-heroine.
Mid-credits scene: Ares before the judgement of the gods. The tables are turned when Ares tells them that their age is almost up; they need to favor the right side in order to continue being gods. Otherwise, they stand a chance of being usurped by New Gods.
Post-credits scene: Wonder Woman reunites with Steve Trevor. Bonus points if she has to bend down to kiss him.
