Department of Education advocating punctuality
No more Filipino time.
To eradicate the Filipino’s bad reputation of habitual tardiness, the Department of Education (DepEd) is advocating punctuality and honesty in classrooms.
Under its “We Are Time Conscious and Honest” (WATCH) program being pursued with the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) and JCI Senate Philippines, DepEd is set to distribute workbooks on the “how to’s” of punctuality and organization to all public schools in the country.
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said the WATCH program is one of DepEd’s strategies to develop the character of millions of public school students who will become the future workforce of the country.
“Through our schools, we can inject in the minds of our students the right outlook about time which can have a great impact on the value of work and productivity,” Lapus explained.
Under the program, JCI Senate Philippines and PACU will undertake national conferences, as well as a series of seminars and orientations, on time management and planning for elementary and high school students to be conducted by the JCI Senate.
The seminars and orientation are seen to complement the students’ existing subject curriculum.
Part of the program is the conduct of national competitions, symposia and fora for the students to imbibe the basic values of honesty and punctuality. – Rainier Allan Ronda
