PCGG to cooperate with NBI on Bautista probe

MANILA, Philippines — The Presidential Commission on Good Government said it is ready to cooperate with the investigation that will be conducted in connection with the allegations of undeclared wealth against Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista.
“PCGG will cooperate with the investigation being conducted by the DOJ (Department of Justice) and NBI (National Bureau of Investigation),” PCGG acting chairman Reynold Munsayac told The STAR on Wednesday.
Munsayac was responding to a question on whether the commission would conduct an investigation on the allegations raised by the Bautista’s wife Patricia.
He did not elaborate on the specifics of the assistance that the PCGG would provide to the NBI in its investigation against the Comelec chief.
Bautista was the head of the PCGG before he was appointed to the poll body by President Benigno Aquino III in 2015.
In her affidavit, Patricia claimed that there were ghost employees at the PCGG, identified as Howie Vitas and Joey Perry, when Bautista was the chairman.
She also alleged that her husband received commissions from a law firm for supposedly recommending clients, including two sequestered companies of the PCGG.
The Comelec chief denied that Vitas and Perry are ghost employees, saying they were hired as consultants of the commission. He also claimed that there was nothing illegal with accepting fees from the law firm.
President Rodrigo Duterte reportedly ordered the NBI to conduct an investigation after meeting with Patricia. The poll body chief he is ready to undergo a lifestyle check to prove his innocence.
