CIS Friendship Cup, Hyundai bootfest get underway today

CEBU, Philippines - Close to a hundred teams are all set for action in the 2017 Cebu International School Friendship Cup-Kyle Weckman and James Jung Memorial Football Tournament today at the CIS field in Barangay Pit-os, Cebu City.

The inter-company and inter-BPO division have the most number of entries with 15.

On the other hand, the ladies open has 10 squads split into two brackets. Composing bracket A are CIS, Avengers, Timex, FM 101, SRFC, while bracket B has Chicos United, Accenture, Transformer FC, Convergys, and Tabor Hills.

Age group battle include the under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.

All events except the under-7 will play in a seve-a-side format.

More than fighting for top honors, the participants are out to help raise funds to some chosen beneficiaries of the two-day event. These are the Cancer Warriors Foundation-Cebu Chapter, Children of Asia Philippines, Gawad Kalinga, Guadix Kiddie Center, Lihuk Panaghiusa, Seed4Com, and the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Cup Under-15 Invitational will also kick off today at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

The event is participated in by four selected teams in Don Bosco Technology Center, University of San Carlos, Paref-Springdale and the visiting Futbol Funatics of Manila.

Instead of the championship match, the three-day tilt will end with an exhibition match between the Cebu under-15 elites and the Hyundai All-Stars. (FREEMAN)
