Palace: July 6 a holiday to mark Eid al-Fitr
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 2 3:33 p.m.) – Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella on Monday announced that Malacañang declared July 6 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Fitr.
"Wednesday, July 6, has been declared a non-working holiday in deference to the conclusion of the Ramadan," Abella said in a televised press conference.
The Official Gazette, the official journal of the Republic of the Philippines, clarified that July 6 is a regular holiday throughout the country.
Article 169 of the 1977 Presidential Decree 1083 states that Eid al-Fitr is recognized as one of the legal Muslim holidays.
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadhan, one of the two Eids that signify the completion of 30-day fasting.
Employees who work on regular holidays are paid at least 200 percent of the sum of their daily rate and cost of living allowance, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.
