MANILA, Philippines – The grounds of the Quirino Grandstand at Rizal Park in Manila turned red yesterday with an estimated half a million red-shirted supporters of Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte gathered at the miting de avance last night.

The gathering, hosted by singer Jimmy Bondoc, started with a prayer at past 4 p.m. Entertainers then took the stage with singer Aiza Seguerra rousing the crowd with a song about change.

Next on stage to speak was Jose David Lapuz, who was Duterte’s political science professor at the Lyceum of the Philippines.

Lapuz told the crowd that Duterte as a student showed he had the guts to do whatever it takes.

“I am happy that one of my students will become the president on Monday,” Lapuz told the cheering crowd shouting “Duterte, Duterte.”

Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Name Above Every Name, spoke about supporting Duterte, saying he is a good friend and nobody can stop him from donating and gifting Duterte millions in cash for his campaign.

Later, vice presidential candidate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano spoke about the virtues of Duterte and reforms in the government.
