Duterte says no to martial law

Rosette Adel - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte on Sunday said there is no possibility of martial law under his administration.

Asked what would provoke him to declare martial law during the “Fast talk” segment of the third and final debate held in Pangasinan, Duterte responded rebellion and lawless violence.

The tough-talking mayor, however, said that martial law is not possible under his presidency since the rebellion is no longer extensive.

“Hindi naman na malawak ang rebellion ngayon,” Duterte said.

Meanwhile, when asked if he is in favor of a hero’s burial for former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Duterte agreed explaining that the issue has been divisive. He added that several Ilocanos want Marcos to have a hero’s burial.

"It's time to heal it," Duterte concluded.
