Palace: Aquino believes campaigning for LP is his duty
MANILA, Philippines — A Malacañang official on Sunday defended President Benigno Aquino III's involvement in the election campaigns, particularly in appearing in advertisements of Liberal Party's top candidates Manuel "Mar" Roxas II and Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo.
Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Aquino believes he is fulfilling his duty to Filipinos in campaigning for the Liberal Party's Daang Matuwid Coalition.
"President Aquino is actively campaigning for the candidates of the Daang Matuwid Coalition because he believes it is his duty to our Bosses, the Filipino people, to ensure the continuity of good governance that is essential to the attainment of inclusive growth for future generations of Filipinos," Coloma Jr. said Sunday in an interview with Radyo ng Bayan.
Coloma's statement came after vice presidential candidate Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero questioned Aquino's role in Liberal Party's political activities leading to the May ballot.
