Binay: I'm not top TV ad spender

MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay on Tuesday denied reports that he is the biggest spender on television advertisements in 2015 among the presidential candidates.

"I am not the top ad spender," Binay said, adding that his friends funded his television advertisements.

Binay insisted that there are other candidates for the 2016 elections who spend more than him.

Media research firm Nielsen Philippines earlier reported that Binay spent an estimated P596 million for TV ads from January 1 to November 30 last year.

Sen. Grace Poe reportedly spent P448 million, followed by Liberal Party standard bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II with P425 million and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with P115 million.

The four presidential candidates spent nearly P1.6 billion on TV ads last year, according to the report.

Among the vice presidential candidates, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano is the biggest spender with P398 million.

Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. reportedly spent an estimated P103 million, followed by Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo with P92 million and Sen. Gregorio Honasan with P44 million.
