Palace appeals for calm amid resignation calls for Aquino

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Wednesday urged Filipinos to be calm and to study the issues at hand instead of calling for President Aquino's resignation following the Mamasapano tragedy.

In a press briefing, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. was asked if the calls for Aquino to step down will only agitate the present situation, wherein police and military officials are pointing fingers on who should be held liable for the death of 44 members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF).

Coloma said the public should just ponder over the Bangsamoro peace process and the government's anti-terror campaign instead of calling for President Aquino's resignation.

Coloma also reiterated that the president will not step down from his post.
