Gigi Reyes surrenders, detained at Sandiganbayan's basement
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Gigi Reyes, the former chief of staff of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, surrendered to the Sandiganbayan immediately after the anti-graft court ordered her arrest.
Dennis Pulma, clerk of court of the Sandiganbayan Third Division, announced at past 7 p.m. that Reyes would be detained temporarily at the anti-graft court's detention cell located at the building's basement.
Pulma said that the Quezon City Jail warden has been directed to submit a report within three days or on Monday if the detention cell is an "adequate facility" for Reyes.
Reyes was brought to the Sandiganbayan's Sheriff's office at around 4:45 p.m. following the Third Division's announcement that it is issuing an arrest warrant against the former chief aide of Enrile.
Reyes is one of Enrile's co-accused in the plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam.
Enrile, meanwhile, surrendered at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame. He was brought to the camp's hospital after his blood pressure rose to 200/90.
