Maguindanao execs thankful for Mar. 27 signing of Bangsamoro pact

John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – Local officials and leaders of different sectors in the province will hold a traditional Moro “Kanduli” as thanksgiving and appreciation for the expected signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro (CAB) on March 27.

The Kanduli is a centuries-old traditional gathering, held either as thanksgiving or to celebrate an important occasion.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles on Friday announced the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will sign the CAB on March 27, ending the 17 years of intense efforts to forge peace in the south.

Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu said the provincial government will sponsor the holding of the Kanduli after March 27.

“Because we have been very supportive of the peace process, it is but fitting and proper to rejoice over this signing of the CAB,” Mangudadatu said.

He said all guests to the Kanduli would be required to wear appropriate costume that would depict the ethnic identity of the Maguindanaons.

“There is so much to be thankful for,” Mangudadatu said.

Gov. Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, who has also been very supportive of the peace talks, said he is planning to declare a non-working holiday in all provinces under the ARMM on March 27.
