Gov't condemns leftist rebels' attack

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The government today condemned the New People's Army (NPA) attack on members of the Red Cross in Davao del Sur last weekend.

Communications secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the use of landmines is a direct violation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.

"We join the Armed Forces of the Philippines in condemning the latest attack of the NPA in Bansalan, Davao del Sur. This brazen act of the NPA is...a clear violation of the agreement," he added.

At least 13 people, including five Red Cross volunteers, were wounded in twin bomb blasts carried out by NPA rebels in Mindanao on Sunday.
