Donations for Yolanda fund drive reach P2.75 million

MANILA, Philippines - • The Philippine STAR’s social arm, Operation Damayan, received new donations for its ongoing fund drive for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda as it geared up for relief operations in calamity areas in Eastern Visayas.

The Hennan Group of Resorts immediately heeded The STAR’s call for assistance as it donated P1 million to Operation Damayan yesterday. The donation, sent in behalf of group chairman Henry Chusuey, was turned over by company VP for marketing Karl Chusuey to STAR president and CEO Miguel Belmonte.

The STAR Group of Companies has donated P.5 million, and Cebuana Lhuillier pitched in P250,000.

Anonymous donations were received yesterday, including SB, P.5 million; P150,000 from Mr. K, P150,000 from Jarius Bondoc, P100,000 from KL, P50,000 from TGFHA, P50,000 from Mr. M and P5,000 from JR, bringing the total Damayan fund drive for Yolanda victims to P2.8 million.

Damayan also received bank deposit donations and will acknowledge these in its next updates.

Damayan sent an initial batch of relief goods to a team leaving today for underserved Basey, Samar, which Gov. Sharee Ann Tan said suffered similar devastation as Tacloban, Leyte. The governor also reported that fatalities in the town alone numbered close to 400.
