MMDA chief enjoys NBA game as floods, traffic hit Metro

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - He cheered – for his favorite basketball team – while floods inundated the city and traffic ground to a near standstill in several major roads.

Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino was seen on television watching the first-ever NBA Global Games between the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers at the Mall of Asia Arena on Thursday night as heavy rain triggered flood in major streets of Metro Manila.

The downpour started late in the afternoon and quickly swamped several areas.

The STAR tried but failed to get a reaction from Tolentino as he did not reply to text messages sent to him yesterday.

According to the MMDA, some of the streets and roads that were flooded were Commonwealth Avenue, Katipunan, the northbound lane of the EDSA-Aurora tunnel and the northbound lane of the EDSA-Boni tunnel.
