Obama in the Philippines October 11-12

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang announced Saturday that US President Barack Obama will visit the Philippines and meet with President Benigno Aquino III next month.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Obama will visit the Philippines from October 11 to 12.

"President Obama will meet President Aquino to discuss ways to further strengthen the enduring Philippines-U.S. alliance, including the expansion of our security, economic, and people-to-people ties," Lacierda said.

Obama's visit to the Philippines is part of his four-country ASEAN tour from October 6 to 12.

In an official statement from the White House, Obama will visit Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines as part of his ongoing commitment to increase US political, economic and security engagement with the Asia Pacific.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said she was not sure if Aquino and Obama would discuss the country's territorial dispute with China, but she said the Department of Foreign Affairs may provide the US president a "briefing on this."
