MANILA, Philippines – The neighborhoods of San Juan's Little Baguio and P. Guevarra have been long underrated and overlooked as food destinations. Not that it’s anyone’s fault. A lot of food yards have been emerging lately, but there’s as much to be discovered on these streets.

We always battle with the question of where to eat every time we go out with our family and friends. So why not settle for these yet-to-be-discovered hubs this coming weekend?

Calderon Cocina Tapas Y Bebidas

Calderon is a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant where the ambiance is just perfect for an intimate Spanish cuisine. The place is a little small but not crammed, giving out some unique coziness with its warm colors.

The Dynamitas Fritos, Paella, Callos and Salpicao are a must-try. Allow yourself to be transported to Spain with their bursting flavors on every meal.

Cafe Ysabel

Cafe Ysabel’s restaurant and the culinary school have been around this street for as long as one can remember. Cafe Ysabel still managed to retain its old, rustic and nostalgic interiors while delivering delicious dishes from Prawns Thermidor to their Kapampangan-inspired breakfast sets.

When you drop by Café Ysabel, be sure to try the Fried Mozarella in Anchovy dressing and their Café Ysabel’s Paella Sulipena. If you feel like going for a romantic and classic ambiance while enjoying the comforts of your meal, it’s the place to be.

Chef Laudico Guevarra’s is an old house turned into a restaurant with a well-curated garden and a fountain for the open view. The moment you step inside, it will automatically make you feel nostalgic with classic homey interiors.

Chef Laudico Guevarra’s offers affordable Filipino cuisine buffet for any occasion. Special dishes include Tokwa't Baboy, Angus Beef, Inihaw na Pusit, Angus Tapa, Inihaw na Bangus and of course Lechon. 

Greeka Kouzina

Experience authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisines without leaving Metro Manila at Greeka Kouzina. Get transported to Greece with their must-try meals such as their Roast Lamb, Souvlakis and Gyro’s which are favorites of the locals themselves.

Not to everyone’s knowledge, Pegi Waffles is the supplier of Starbuck’s famous Belgian waffles. Upon entering, the coziness from its gray and striped patterns and classic modern interiors will automatically greet you.

It is one of those hole-in-the-wall cafes that will keep you hidden for the whole day. It’s also a perfect place for you to hang out with your friends as the place is totally “Instagram-worthy”.

Make sure to try out their Ham-Bechamel Waffles and Brussels Waffle with Maple Smoked Ham.

La Creperie
