Ogie, Regine make wedding guests cry
The wedding vows were so touching that the well-heeled guests couldn‘t help but cry.
The groom, Ogie Alcasid, 43, lovingly looked at his bride, Regine Velasquez, as he said in English, “I will be your Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Justin Bieber,” and Regine, 40, her eyes fixed on her brand-new husband, answered in Tagalog, “Kuwarenta anyos na ako kaya pasensya na lang kung masungit ako kung minsan.”
Recounted STAR contributor Girlie Rodis who was among the teary-eyed guests, “Not a pair of eyes was dry.”
Then, Regine sang the APO song Di Ko Malimutan, part of which goes, …di ko maalaala kung kailan nagsimula, di ko malimutan kung kailan ko natikman ang tamis ng ‘yong halik, yakap na napaka-higpit, pagibig na tunay hanggang langit…
The wedding, held at The Peak, Terrazas de Punta Fuego, Nasugbu, Batangas, as heavenly shades of night were falling late yesterday afternoon, was dubbed Wedding of The Decade. It will be shown as a TV special on Sunday, Dec. 26, on GMA with which the couple is under exclusive contract, with a wedding primer to be aired tomorrow in Startalk, also on GMA.
The radiant bride walked down the aisle to the tune of Ryan Cayabyab’s wedding song Iniibig Kita.
Regine was the first-ever bride to wear a red wedding dress specially designed by Monique Lhuillier for reportedly $8,000 (although some people claimed it cost more), a gift for her by Dr. Vicki Belo who stood as one of the 20 principal sponsors who also included Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde, GMA big boss Felipe L. Gozon, GMA exec Wilma Galvante, TV5 boss Manny V. Pangilinan, Sharon Cuneta, Jose Mari Chan, Viva boss Vic del Rosario Jr., Tony Tuviera, German Moreno, Ida Henares, Nanette Inventor, Orlando Ilacad, Anastacia Puno, Dr. Crisanta Villanueva, US-based concert producer Ma. Rosario Legarda, Ronnie Henares, Freddie Santos and Michel Lhuillier and wife Amparito Llamas-Lhuillier (Monique’s parents).
Ogie is an endorser of the Lhuillier string of pawnshops, so Monique accommodated Vicki’s order for Regine’s gown made last August when Regine, accompanied by Vicki, went to L.A. for her measurements.
Pres. Noynoy “P-Noy” Aquino was one of the groomsmen. He left soon after the ceremony and didn’t attend the reception.
Ogie’s ex-wife Michelle Van Eimeren was Candle Bearer with her husband Mark Morrow. It was Michelle who did the floral arrangement. When Michelle and Mark got married in Australia last year, Ogie and Regine were present. Leila Isabel, older of Michelle and Ogie’s two daughters, was Maid of Honor. Sarah Kate, the other daughter, was Bible Bearer
The bride wore a pair of expensive boots which she playfully showed the guests by lifting the hemline of her gown.
In previous interviews with The STAR, Ogie and Regine revealed that they would have to postpone their honeymoon, most probably in Europe, to early next year. They planned to spend the next few days in Bohol, together with Michelle and Mark, plus Leila and Sarah Kate.
Regine admitted that she and Ogie have been living together since three years ago when news about their engagement leaked out in the media.
At the reception, Dingdong Avanzado, one of the groomsmen, dedicated Iibigin, a song he composed specially for the couple.
