Marian in her scariest

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - After Pamahiin and Shake, Rattle and Roll X comes Tarot from Regal Entertainment, and it will be Marian Rivera’s scariest horror flick.

“Moviegoers should be expected to shout at the top of their voices from fear. This is really a scary movie. I was actually frightened doing this film but I know people who like horror films will enjoy Tarot,” explains Marian.

In Tarot, Marian plays Cara who has a unique gift — seeing the future through her grandmother’s tarot cards. When she was a child she already predicted two deaths in her family. And after her predictions came true, Cara’s mother Diana, played by Susan Africa, feared for the dangers that her daughter’s psychic powers may bring her. She then stopped her daughter from using her gift.

Unfortunately, it was love that broke her promise to her mom. When her boyfriend Miguel (Dennis Trillo) went missing from a hiking session, a saddened and disturbed Cara was forced to use her gift to look for him. Using the tarot cards to answer her questions, she opened a Pandora’s box of dreadful revelations about her own life.

“When I was just starting in showbiz, the first horror film I did was Pamahiin with Dennis. This is our second horror film together. It’s our reunion movie and as always, it was exciting working with him again,” Marian says.

Unlike in Pamahiin, wherein she was the one eliciting fear and horror, Tarot has her running for her life in horror.

“I was already scared of Tarot when I first read the script they gave me. And when we started shooting, it was scarier than I ever imagined. I’m also grateful to Regal Films, especially Mother Lily Monteverde for her movie project,” adds Marian.

Marian relates she enjoyed working with her director Jun Lana and admired his vision for Tarot. She believed that they have achieved their goal with Tarot which is to instill a frightful and hair-raising experience for moviegoers.

Tarot also stars Roxanne Guinoo, Glaiza de Castro, Rich Asuncion, Niña Jose, Ana Quiambao, Gloria Diaz and Celia Rodriguez.

It opens Aug. 26 in theaters nationwide.
