Eat, Bulaga! awards cash & grants to scholars

MANILA, Philippines - Tears of joy and hope for a brighter tomorrow filled the Broadway Studios last May 23 when GMA 7’s Eat, Bulaga! presented and recognized 30 underprivileged yet deserving students from all over the country. They were nominated and selected for the noontime show’s 30th anniversary project, Eat, Bulaga!’s Excellent Student Awards.

The kids who graduated with honors in their elementary schools as valedictorian, salutatorian and first honorable mention, together with their parents received the most memorable graduation gift from TAPE, Inc. — P20,000 in cash plus four-year scholarship grant in high school.

Aside from the cash gift and study grant, the students will receive P30,000 allowance annually, divided into 10 months, and to be distributed monthly. Also, beginning next year and the succeeding years, P5,000 for school supplies and other basic needs in their studies will be allotted.

The honorees were also provided with complete school supplies, bags, shoes, slippers, rainboots and raincoats. Gift packs from sponsors like Eight O’Clock, Rebisco Sandwich, Sunsilk, Solmux For Kids, Nutriplex were likewise handed over. To cap the celebration, the kids were treated to a graduation party at McDonald’s with games.

After 30 years of success on television, Eat, Bulaga! opted to celebrate its Tatlong Dekads Ng Dabarkads by extending its scholarly gesture to the public instead of a pompous and extravagant affair. The 30 elementary students that comprise Eat, Bulaga!’s Excellent Student Awardees were grateful to the hosts, management, staff and crew of Eat, Bulaga!

Through EB’s Excellent Student Awards, Eat, Bulaga! has opened more doors for the kids’ future when calls poured in during the show from Filipinos here and as far as Texas and Canada, expressing their congratulations and extending their financial support through donations and pledges.
