Neri Naig-Miranda slams parenting site for misleading headline
MANILA, Philippines — Former Kapamilya actress Neri Naig-Miranda blasted an online parenting magazine for an alleged “wrong choice of words” in the headline of an article.
Smart Parenting posted an article on August 8 titled, “Neri Miranda on Breastfeeding Miggy: 'Gusto Mong Matapos Na Agad.'” The title came with the caption: “Feeling ko, anong klase akong ina kapag papainumin ko ng formula (ang anak ko)?”
The former Star Circle artist and wife of Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda expressed her anger on Instagram.
“Wow. Just wow. Ang daming nag send sa akin nito. Galit po ako. Hindi ako natutuwa. Really? Smart Parenting? Very smart talaga. Napakagaling ng gumawa ng article na to. Very responsible. Galing. Magsorry kayo hindi lang sa akin kundi sa lahat ng nanay na na-offend nyo. At sa lahat ng netizens na basta lang magcomment, hello? Nagbibigay kaya ako ng talk about my breastfeeding journey with Miggy,” she wrote.
In an interview with Philstar.com during the recent launch of Discovery Kids App, Neri said many concerned friends sent her direct messages to report the article to her.
“Ang daming nag-DM sa akin noong article, tapos nong pagtingin ko, sabi ko, ‘Ay bakit ganyan naman ang headline?’ Napaka-insensitive ko naman sa ibang nanay. Without my permission, nagsulat sila, tapos kinuha nila ‘yung mga quote sa blog ko, parang misleading talaga,” she said.
Neri said she had nice wordings on her blog about breastfeeding, so she felt sad after she saw the article, which, according to her, was a “clickbait.”
“Grabe inaaway na ko ng mga tao because of that, so pinost ko agad. Galit na galit talaga ko kasi sabi ko nga ako ang ganda ganda ng pagkakasabi ko sa blog ko, tapos gagawin na ganon na clickbait talaga. ‘Pag binasa mo sa blog ko, ang ganda ganda ng pagkakasabi ko na ‘Hindi nasusukat kung formula man o breastfed ka ang pagiging isang mabuting ina. Ang importante napapakain natin at naaalagaan natin an ating mga anak’,” she said.
Smart Parenting already apologized to Neri and husband Chito for the “misleading” headline, saying it was a case for “poor choice of words. “
“In our desire to have moms read Neri's inspiring story, our poor choice of words had people wondering if we were pro-mom. The fact that there was even a doubt makes us truly sorry. The first time we shared this on Facebook (August 8), our caption was: Neri is lending her support to all the moms, no matter what feeding choices they make.’ We should have stuck with that. The decision to breastfeed or formula-feed lies with the mom. And whatever that decision is, it is one Smart Parenting supports,” the online magazine explained.
Recently, Neri became one of the speakers in a Star Bazaar sponsored by Globe myBusiness.
She shared the importance of partnerships, balancing time for multiple careers, and how to start a business venture based on her own experience as an entrepreneur.
Other celebrities who had booths in the bazaar held at SM Megamall were Janice de Belen, LJ Moreno, Marlo Mortel, Almira Muhlach, RR Enriquez, Diana Zubiri, Tintin Bersola, Binca Lapus, and Candy Pangilinan.
