MANILA, Philippines — Actress Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez reiterated in an interview with Philstar.com the importance of preparing for a pageant’s question and answer (Q&A) portion.
Her Q&A skills, she revealed, were her secret for beating Latinas in the Spanish international pageant Reina Hispanoamericana, even though she did not speak Spanish at all.
“It’s very different now. Hindi na kung pano ka maglakad or pano ‘yung hitsura mo. It’s about Q&A,” the Philippines’ and Asia’s first Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 winner said.
“Kung sumablay sa Q&A, ‘yun na maaalala sa’yo. Kahit manalo ka, kung ‘yung Q&A mo ‘di maganda o ‘di ganun ka-okay, ‘yun ang maaalala.”
To harness one’s Q&A skills, she suggested enriching one’s experience of things. “Kasi kung wala kang hugot, wala kang masasagot na substance. Hindi s’ya substantial.”
“So before you join a pageant, make sure you’re studying, make sure you know the current events, make sure you know what’s happening around you and your experiences in life as well, because it will help you a lot in pageants,” she explained.
She stressed to not rely on one’s look, walk or styling.
“S’yempre ano naman ang gagawin mo kung matangkad ka (pero) it’s hard for you to communicate and say what you want to say sa question, ‘di ba?”
Studying, she said, became her advantage over her taller Latina opponents at Reina Hispanoamericana.
