MANILA, Philippines — Singer-actress Mocha Uson has been appointed as ambassador of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this year.

During a press conference at Malacañang, Uson said that she will use social media to help promote the entries of the MMFF.

Uson noted that the government and the public had failed to support Filipino filmmakers before.

The singer-actress, who is a known supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, admitted that conflicts have arisen in social media due to various issues.

The newly appointed MMFF ambassador said that Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Thomas "Tim" Orbos himself reached out to her to support the film fest.

Uson stressed that change has also come for the Filipino film industry.

The eight finalists for this year's MMFF are Ted Boborol’s "Vince and Kath and James", Jun Robles Lana’s "Die Beautiful", Erik Matti’s "Seklusyon", Arturo San Agustin and Real Florido’s "Kabisera", Baby Ruth Villarama’s "Sunday Beauty Queens", Marlon Rivera’s "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough", Alvin Yapan’s "Oro" and Avid Liongoren’s "Saving Sally".

Orbos earlier said that the reform in this year's selection process is a "change for the better."
