4th Impact: Failures can still lead to success
MANILA, Philippines — The all-Filipino group 4th Impact did not deny that the journey in the music scene was not easy.
For ten years, the sisters/bandmates had their fair share of defeat and rejection which somehow disheartened them from pursuing their music career.
“Lagi po kaming natatalo sa mga competition, kung hindi matatalo mare-reject,” recalled Almira, the eldest of the four, in an exclusive interview with Philstar.com.
“Muntik na po talagang mag-give up,” Mylene added, and related that it was their mom who motivated them to keep going.
Almira recalled how their mom let them experience failures, learn from it, and get back on their feet.
“No’ng minsang na-disappoint kami at nag-give up na kami sabi niya, ‘Anak paniwalaan n’yo ko kasi ako naniniwala, nakikita ko sa inyo may mararating kayo,’” she related. “Lagi niya pong sinasabi, ‘Binigyan kayo ni Lord ng talent for a reason so, use it to inspire young children.’”
Then there came the chance for them to try their luck in London and auditioned for the “X-Factor UK.”
After joining a number of talent-search shows, the siblings promised themselves that it would be the last competition they would join.
Lucky enough, they were noticed by the judges, only their journey was cut short after they failed to secure a spot in the ninth of 12 weeks in the singing competition.
Despite their fate, the girls considered it their “biggest break,” opening a number of opportunities for them in London.
“Parang ito na po ‘yong biggest break na parang binibigay po sa 'min ni Lord,” Irene said about their career in London. “So kukunin lang po namin ‘yong chance namin na parang ipagpatuloy po muna ‘yong sa UK, ‘yong nasimulan po namin sa UK.”
However, the group did not pursue an international career solely for themselves.
“We’re doing this para naman po hindi lang sa amin, kundi para sa country,” said Almira.
Celina explained that this is their way of promoting Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to the world. “Kasi ‘pag nasa tour kami at kumakanta kami ng mga OPM nabibilib sila na, ‘ayun pala ‘yong music n’yo,’” Celina said. “Nabibilib rin sila na may English din pala tayo na songs.”
Being able to promote OPM in different countries, such as in joining “X-Factor UK,” is a dream come true for 4th Impact.
“Pasensiya na po masyadong mataas ang pangarap namin, pero pinag-uusapan po talaga namin ‘yang magkakapatid, dream namin,” Irene said. “Pangarap po kasi talaga namin is makilala po internationally, like Charice, Lea Salonga, Arnel Pineda.”
Although they dreamed of making it internationally, they’re not closing their doors for opportunities locally.
4th Impact proved that dreams do come true if one wouldn’t give up and lose hope. Their journey also reminds everyone that everything was just in “perfect timing.”
“Kunin nila ‘yong [failure] na challenge para mag-grow, para mahasa mo ‘yong talent mo to succeed,” Almira said.
Catch 4th Impact perform live in the Philippines for the first time after their “X-Factor UK” journey at the Paradise International Music Festival, and witness the talent that has launched their international career.
The even is slated for Saturday, April 9 at the Aseana City open grounds, with their performance scheduled at 4 p.m.
