Sarah in transition

Bot Glorioso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  After her concert titled From The Top at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Dec. 4 sold out, Sarah Geronimo  is doing one more show (Dec. 5) to accommodate the high ticket demand.

It’s been two years since Sarah’s last concert, thus the clamor to see her perform again in a big venue. In fact, Sarah had a hard time deciding on the concept “because I wanted to offer something new at medyo nalo-lost ako kung ano ba talaga ang pwede ko pang gawin. In my previous shows, parang marami-rami na rin yung napakita ko.”

It was Georcelle Dapat-Sy of G-Force who broached to her the idea of showcasing what she really wanted as an artist.

“Teacher Georcelle knows that I’m an artist in transition, that I’m still weighing a lot of things regarding my career. I mean, the title Popstar Royalty is given to me by people. So I’m thinking, ‘Do I really want to be a Popstar?’ ‘What is really my plan for myself; my career?’ So when she said, ‘Why don’t we take it from the top?’ I told her maganda ‘yan maging title,” shared Sarah. “She suggested that we re-start and connected din naman s’ya sa aim ko. This is the first time I’m doing a show where I will focus on my own songs and not much on covers. I’m excited to perform songs I really love but had not been released in the market. Of course, I’ll sing a few from my upcoming album.”

Aside from selecting the song line-up for the concert, Sarah is prepping up physically by devoting some time for workouts to improve her stamina. Obviously, she already shed some pounds.

Emotionally, Sarah says that she is happy. She neither admits nor denies break-up rumors with boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli are breaking up. According to reports, Matteo is spending more time with Shaina Magdayao and it’s understandable because they are starring in Single/Single which is co-produced by Cinema One and The Philippine STAR, now on its second season airing 8 p.m., Saturday nights (with replays Sundays at 10 p.m. and Wednesdays at 8 p.m.).

Hindi naman kami naghiwalay,” she clarified. “I am happy. It is important to look at the bright side of life. We should focus on (what’s) positive and thank God for every blessing.”

Asked if it’s possible to find a balance between love and career, Sarah replied that everything would depend on the kind of commitment that people in a relationship have. “If there are sacrifices or compromises, I think it is possible for the relationship to work especially if buo talaga yung pagmamahalan. Even if both are busy, they will still find time to be with each other.”

Settling down also crosses her mind. “I’m now 27, darating at darating tayo dyan but I don’t feel any pressure (to marry). You’re asking kung si Matteo na? Only God knows.”

As for her career, the Viva talent wishes to do songs that would inspire people. “Part of my goal is to create music that is not only pleasing to the ears but also has lessons or a deeper meaning to it like Make Me Yours which I collaborated with Louie Ocampo in 2013. It’s a love song for God. Hopefully, masundan pa.”

How does she see herself 10 years from now?

“I will be 37 by that time so hopefully, I already have kids and I’m still active in the music scene because it would be hard for me to let go of my singing (career).”

(A production of Viva Live, Inc., From The Top is directed by Paolo Valenciano with Louie Ocampo as musical director. For tickets, call Ticketnet at 911-5555 and Viva Concerts, 687-7236.)
