Classic Filipino films to be highlighted in Cinema One Originals 2015

MANILA, Philippines – The 11th year of Cinema One Originals will give special focus on the restored version of four classic Filipino films.

Lino Brocka’s “Insiang, “ Isamel Bernal’s “Ikaw ay Akin,” “Marilou Diaz Abaya’s “Karnal” and Olivia M. Lamasan’s “Sana Maulit Muli” will be screened in this year’s film festival.

These films are in addition to the nine original films that were chosen to be featured this year.

The nine films are:

  1. “Baka, Siguro, Yata” by Joel Ferrer
  2. “Bukod Kang Pinagpala” by Sheron Dayoc
  3. “Dahlin’ Nick” by Sari Dalena
  4. “Dayang Asu” by Bor Ocampo
  5. “Hamog” by Ralston Jover
  6. “Manang Biring” by Carl Joseph Papa
  7. “Mga Rebeldeng May Kaso” by Raymond Red
  8. “Miss Bulalacao” by Ara Chawdhury
  9. “The Comeback” by Ivan Andrew Payawal

There will also be ten short films to be screened this year:

  1. “Junilyn Has” by Carlo Manatad
  2. “Sanctissima” by Kenneth Lim Dagatan
  3. “Dindo” by Martika Escobar
  4. “Pusong Bato” by Pam Miras
  5. “Reyna Christina” by Pia Dimagiba
  6. “Memorya” by Jovanni Tinapay
  7. “Mabuhay ang Pilipinas” by Bor Ocampo
  8. “Anino” by Raymond Red
  9. “A Love Story” by Steven Baker
  10. “The Tenant” by Mohsen Mahkmalbaf

True to their “Kakaiba Ka Ba?” tag, the film festival also included films submitted by different countries which are under the “World Cinema” category.

The eleven foreign films are:

“The Assassin” by Hou Hsiao-Hsien from Taiwan
“Journey to the Shore” by Kurosawa Kiyoshi from Japan
“Right Now, Wrong Then” by Hong Sang-Soo from South Korea
“Interrogation” by Vetri Maaran from India
“The President” by Mohsen Makhmalbaf from Georgia/Iran
“Arabian Night” by Miguel Gomes from Portugal
“The Lobster” by Yorgos Lanthimos from Ireland
“Rams” by Grimur Hakonarson from Iceland
“The Treasure” by Corneliu Porumboiu
“A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on its Existence” by Roy Andersson from Sweden
“Mustang” by Deniz Gamze Erguven from France

The Cinema One Originals film festival will run from November 9 to 17 and the films will be screened at TriNoMa, Glorietta, Resorts World Manila and SM Megamall.
