MANILA, Philippines - Kiefer Ravena and Alyssa Valdez show their "other side" as they star in Digital 5's online show "Phenoms."
"Sobrang excited kami to do our own online show," said Kiefer about the show, in an interview on Tuesday. "It's something to look forward to especially since this is the digital time. We're blessed to get the opportunity to interact with our fans and show probably a different side from what they usually see us doing. So it's a good opportunity to show our different side, our real side."
Starting August 24, one episode per week will be uploaded on the TV5 Originals website, where their fans get to see them train for their sport and how they live their lives beyond being athletes.
Kiefer is a member of the Ateneo De Manila University's collegiate basketball team, the Ateneo Blue Eagles. Meanwhile, Alyssa is a volleyball player for the Ateneo Lady Eagles.
Alyssa believes the show is one way of inspiring people who look up to them.
"I think it's one way to show na we're all equal, na puwede nilang marating ang nagawa namin ni Kiefer," she explained. "Siguro 'yon ang behind sa concept ng show, e. Kasi kung ipapakita ang ginagawa namin sa bahay, sa training, one inspiration din 'yon for aspiring atheletes, para makita nila na kaya din nila gawin 'yon. Kasi malay ba nila sila ang next generation ng athletes."
Unknown to many, Kiefer and Alyssa were friends since they started going to college. This may be the reason why they're comfortable being with each other.
When asked if there's a possibility of them to be linked romantically, Kiefer replied: "Parang kapatid ko po kasi 'to, e."
"I-enjoy muna namin ito, kung anong mayro'n kami ngayon. We'll focus on our priorities first," he added.
Recently, Kiefer confirmed that he's no longer in a relationship with De La Salle volleyball player Mika Reyes.
As for their plans of pursuing a career in showbiz, Alyssa said being in the industry is just a "reward" of their hard work as athletes.
"For us this is a bonus, e, bonus for how we perform sa sport namin, being passionate sa ginagawa namin," she said. "Ito siguro ang reward. So we're very thankful and we're trying to grab naman the opportunities na dumadaan sa amin. We have to thank everyone who help us kung nasaan kami ngayon."
Catch the first online episode of "Phenoms" on August 24 on Digital 5.
