According to the West End Video YouTube page, the Les Mis V Phantom event started as a charity event for Melanie Oakley-Dow, the head of the Wig
Department of the West End musical “Les Miserables,” and has been part of the musical for 28 years.
She died in December 2013 after battling cancer for years.
“It promises to be a fun filled, family day of music, entertainment and events, culminating in a football match between the two shows, featuring celebrity players and ex-professional footballers,” the page said about the event.
This year, the group behind the event has chosen the The Make A Difference Trust, a group that “has been raising funds through the theater community for HIV and AIDS projects that raise awareness and provide care, support and education in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Some portion of the proceeds will also go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
