Andre Paras won't give up basketball for acting

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines- Andre Paras is thankful for the positive feedback he’s receiving for his first acting project.

Paras' first movie is  VIVA film's  â€œDiary ng Panget” where he starred with Nadine Lustre, James Reid, and Yassi Pressman.

“People say that I’m good in acting but that was me, e, in real life,” he said in a recent interview, referring to his role in the film. “Parang I was surprised that people accepted it, so parang naisip ko na as a person they can accept me kasi gano’n talaga ako makulit, kengkoy.

“So I want to thank everybody na they also supported the other cast members, that they believed in us kahit bago lang kami.”

GMA Network seems to notice Andre’s potential so they got him to do a TV project with Barbie Forteza, Thea Tolentino and Jean Garcia dubbed “Half Sisters.”

Andre admits that this project may be a bit harder for him since his role will be different from who he is in real life.

“I’m not  a serious person but it’s acting and I love to try different things also,” he said. “Kasi dream ko talaga maging action star. But I’m thankful that they also gave me this role, so I can prove to them that I am capable of acting in different ways.”

Though not all are impressed with his acting skills, Andre remains positive and would rather focus on being better than think of the negative criticisms about him.

Looking at Andre’s career path which is starting as a basketball player from UP Maroons and now entering showbiz, some thinks he’s following his dad Benjie Paras’ footsteps.

But this 18-year-old budding actor thinks otherwise.

“Well, it’s a coincidence I guess,” he replied when asked how was it following his dad’s footsteps. “I’m not following his footsteps, I’m just doing what I love also.

“So ‘yon nga, we just love the same things. I’m enjoying it kahit na it’s hard, but I can handle it since it’s my interest also.”

But the big question for him is that if he’s giving up his basketball career for his acting career.

“I know it’s weird but I get the best of both worlds,” he replied. “I love acting and I also love making people smile. I also love basketball, I love playing the sport. I enjoy both, it’s both for entertaining people and I love doing that talaga.”
