The Library spreads the laughter from Malate to Ortigas
MANILA, Philippines - The mother of all comedy bars is giving birth to a new branch.
The Library, Malate’s iconic bar and restaurant that discovered comedy luminaries Ai-Ai delas Alas, Allan K, Arnell Ignacio, Pooh and Vice Ganda, is expanding with the opening of The Library Ortigas tomorrow, Jan. 10.
Situated at the bustling Metrowalk commercial hub, the new branch offers awesome entertainment The Library is known for — jaw-dropping song and dance performances, hilarious skits and monologues and fun interactions between hosts and the audience night in and night out.
According to The Library founder and creative director Andrew de Real the new endeavor answers the long-standing public demand for a more accessible venue. With a supportive partner in Viva Entertainment, Inc., the wish is now being granted.
“This branch is for those who have long been curious about the bar but not have been able to visit us in Malate. This is for the young crowd who wants to experience a brand of entertainment that has withstood time. And this is for our usual patrons who have laughed with us for 28 years. If you can’t drive or commute to Manila anymore, then you now have an option,†De Real shared.
De Real added that bar-goers will also be delighted with The Library Ortigas’ exquisite interiors, state-of-the-art facilities and delicious menu. But the highlight will still be the performances of mainstays that will feature some acts from Malate crew and promising talents.
Fondly called Mamu in the entertainment and business circles, De Real has mentored generation of artists, some of which are already big names in showbiz. For The Library Ortigas, Mamu will introduce new discoveries including a trio of plus-size women, called the FHM or Fat Hot Mommas with powerful vocals.
“These girls will blow you away. They are the Anton Diva of the Ortigas branch,†he said. Anton Diva, a Regine Velasquez impersonator who eventually became a recording and concert artist herself, earned her chops in The Library Malate.
With genuine talents, a more modern and accessible venue and a creative direction of de Real, The Library Ortigas will bring the same vibrant, defiant and roaring laughter that continues to resonate from The Library Malate.
Join De Real with performers Gwadings, The Muses & Titans, Zeus Collins, plus surprise guests tomorrow, Jan. 10 as people gather to make some noise in the only library where it is prohibited to observe silence.
