Sam Milby talks about Jessy Mendiola, MMFF movie

MANILA, Philippines - Even Jessy Mendiola herself was surprised when Sam Milby admitted on national television that he is courting the 20-year-old actress.

According to the Kapamilya actor, he did this not to prevent other men from getting close to Jessy. He simply wanted to stop people from speculating about the nature of their friendship.

“I don’t want it to be a bigger issue because people are making speculations,” Sam said during the story conference of his upcoming movie “Kimmy Dora: The Prequel Kiyeme” on Tuesday, September 10.  

Sam added, “I just want to be honest sa mga tao na I’m making ligaw sa kanya. I already said what I needed to say.”

His on-air confession, Sam explained, was a declaration of how seriously he’s pursuing Jessy.

However, if other guys are staying away from Jessy because of his public declaration, “Okay naman din, pwede rin naman ganoon,” Sam quipped.

Besides Sam, Jake Cuenca is also rumored to be wooing the Kapamilya actress.

Asked what he likes about Jessy, Sam said: “I like her simplicity, that’s what I always say. She’s simple, hindi siya maarte. Kahit yung pagdadamit niya, she likes simple clothes. She doesn’t have to be always glamorized. She’s sporty. We have a lot of likes in terms of music, food. And we get along.”

A good break

The 29-year-old actor is also busy doing two movies: the Eugene Domingo-starrer “Kimmy Dora: The Prequel Kiyeme,” which is part of the Metro Manila Film Festival this year; and “The Gifted,” which star Anne Curtis and will be released next year.

As a self-proclaimed fan of comedienne Eugene, Sam is happy to be part of the “Kimmy Dora” film trilogy.

“It’s a good break coming from a heavier role,” he said. Sam’s last project was the TV drama “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala.”

While Sam still sees himself more of a dramatic actor than a comedian, he aims to be versatile as an actor.

“I don’t wanna be known as a comedian. I would want to be known as a dramatic actor. But I think versatility is something that you can never go wrong in acting. I would want to show na kaya ko magdrama, kaya ko mag-action, kaya ko mag-comedy,” he said.

Sam added, “I’m happy to be given these opportunities.”
