Body Talk with Alyssa Alano

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

“I’m thankful to God for giving me a new life, a second chance to live again. Now I value every moment of it.”

That’s Alyssa Alano speaking, back to good health — and to work, including as co-host of Startalk — four months after that midnight accident in November last year in which she drove her car right smack into an island railing, one steel bar stuck piercing her tummy as she was rushed screaming to a nearby hospital.

“I will never forget that night,” Alyssa told Funfare. “I was in the hospital for two weeks, in pain.”

Up to now, according to Alyssa, she would wake up in cold sweat and in quiet tears.

“Nagkaka-nightmare pa rin ako,” continued Alyssa, “as if I’m still in shock. The accident has made me realize a lot of things and made me appreciate the people around me…kung gaano nila ako inalagaan, especially my family, my friends and my Startalk companions (Tito Butch, Tito Joey and Nanay Lolit) and the Startalk staff.”

What was the best lesson that Alyssa learned from that accident?

“Not to drive late at night lalo na if I’m sleepy, hehehe! No, hindi naman ako nagka-phobia. As of now, wala pa naman chance that I really needed to drive but I think I will drive again. After the accident, I asked my cousin to drive for me. My doctors told me that next time, if I start driving again, I should drive safely and make sure that someone is with me para may kausap ako at hindi ako antukin.”

A Leo, Alyssa stands 5’5.5”; weighs 120 lbs.; measures 35-25-35; and wears small/extra-small shirt and size-7 shoes.

How did you get back your health, regain your ideal weight?

“Eating the right kind of food and proper diet lang. Also I always make sure to take my vitamins.”

Have you started working out? How big is the scar? Can you still wear a two-piece swimsuit?

“Yes, I have started working out again, pero hindi pa masyadong heavy and better kung light exercise lang para less stressful at hindi mabanat ‘yung surgery. I have a good doctor. He made sure that the scar is not obvious so I can still wear a swimsuit especially this summer. Maybe naisip niya na liitan lang ‘yung scar para makapag-two-piece pa rin ako.”

What part of your body needs improvement?

 â€œMy abs para mas sexy.”

Favorite part of your body?

“My tummy kasi maliit naman siya ever since, and my legs and butt.”

Part of a man’s body that you notice first?

“The face. Hindi naman ako masyadong mahilig sa buff na katawan, eh.”

What about your diet?

“I’m more into fruits. But I don’t starve myself. I also eat the food that I love, such as chicken curry and steak.”

What is for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner?

“For breakfast, usually fried rice, eggs and tocino or whatever; sometimes, cereals. For lunch, rice din ako and Filipino ulam like adobo and sinigang. For dinner, not much but usually only sandwich and milk.”

Any snacks between meals?

“Very rarely. If ever, I have snacks only when I’m taping but when I’m at home, minsan chips will do.”

What medicines (and vitamins) do you take?

“Only vitamin C. I’m done with my medications.”

How much water do you take per day?

“Naku, madami! I could take two to three liters of water a day. Malakas talaga ako mag-water.”

Since you are back at work, how much  sleep do you get per night?

“Normally, four to six hours enough na. If I have no work, I sleep as long as I can.”

How many pillows do you sleep with?

“Six.”

“Nope, di kasi ako outgoing, homebody ako. Basta may DVDs and chips, kahit whole day ako sa bahay happy na ako.”

How’s your love life (may boyfriend?)?

“Wala, eh. But I’m happy.”

Describe your outlook in life.

“Work hard, especially if you still have a job and while you’re still young. You’ll never know kasi until when ka malakas. Kaya ako I always grab every opportunity that comes along.”
