2012 MMFF grosses P79.06M on 2nd day

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) raked in P79.06 million on the second day (Dec. 26), so far grossing a total of P187.66M nationwide. Here’s the box-office second-day ranking of the eight entries:

Sisterakas — P32.4M

Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako — P19.2M

One More Try — P11.2M

Shake, Rattle & Roll 14: The Invasion — P8.6M

El Presidente — P2.9M

The Strangers — P2.4M

Sosy Problems — P1.7M

Thy Womb — P660,000

The MMFF runs until Jan. 8, 2013.

The result of last night’s Gabi ng Parangal Awards is expected to change the entries’ box-office standing but not dramatically.

Incidentally, MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino and MMFF executive committee chairman Jesse Ejercito reiterated that the assignment of theaters to the eight official entries was done fairly.

In Metro Manila, theater assignments were raffled. For theaters in the provinces, MMFF helped all the entries get theaters but in the long run, it’s up to the discretion of theater-owners to determine how long they’re showing the movies depending on their grosses. If, for instance, a movie is not earning well, the theater-owner would decide to end its run and replace it with another one.
