GMA 7 introduces new teen idols

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  After several months of its intensive search for the next batch of TV sensations, GMA Network finally comes up with the coveted list of promising faces that will banner the upcoming youth-oriented series, Teen Gen to premiere tomorrow, after Party Pilipinas.

Fresh from winning in Protégé, Jeric Gonzalez and Thea Tolentino land their first project in the Kapuso network as they lead the cast of Teen Gen. They will portray the roles of Tiago and Angge in the series, respectively.

On being part of the show, Jeric shares, “Ito na ang umpisa ng aking mga pangarap kaya excited ako sa project na ito. Nakaka-pressure kaya kailangan naming galingan at patunayan na karapat-dapat kami for the show.”

Meanwhile, Thea expresses her gratitude as she embarks on her first project. “I’m so happy. God has been so good to me and I will give all my best in Teen Gen.”

The TV show also brings back the kilig tandem of Bobby Andrews and Angelu de Leon as they once again breathe life to their characters Wacks and Peachy, respectively, from the phenomenal T.G.I.S. series.

Also in the cast are Juancho Trivino, Dianne Hernandez, Avel Estanislao, Gianna Revilla, Seth Isay, Sunyee Maluche, Gab de Leon and Arkin Magalona.

Teen Gen is under the direction of Mark Reyes with Kit Villanueva-Langit as headwriter.

Direk Mark looks back to the happy memories of creating the unparalleled youth program which also launched the careers of today’s respected actors in the industry.

As he puts it, “18 years ago, I was given the opportunity to create a youth-oriented show for a Saturday afternoon which had non-existent audience market. With the courage of ignorance, we broke the norms of Philippine TV by doing a light drama-comedy, which was unheard of in the traditional soap dominated ’90s. We got an inspiration from the fast-rising MTV channel in terms of visual treatment and fashion styles. Our first season was shaky. T.G.I.S. was branded too “bourgeois” or too upper class for the masa market. But come the second season. It skyrocketed to the TV phenomenon that it was, prompting the rival network to copy our format after a year. Now, with much excitement and bravado from experience, the original director and writer bring back T.G.I.S. as Teen Gen. Expect a new generation of young stars and T.G.I.S. alumni Bobby and Angelu to bring back youthful family entertainment for both young and not so young who are now parents to teenagers.”
